During the COVID-19 pandemic many Michiganders got new pets for because they had more time on their hands. Then the pandemic got a hold of the country and affected the economy many new pet owners realized it wasn't a good idea after all. That doesn't give a person the right to be cruel to their pet.
I don't believe the pandemic was the root of animal cruelty because it was on the rise in 2017 and was up over 75%. According to the Michigan Incident Crime Reporting, as of November of 2024, animal cruelty is up 90%.

Did a Michigan Man Strangle His Dog or Did it Die of Old Age?
The Macomb County Sheriff department in investigating that a man allegedly strangled his dad's Labrador retriever which if true, is absolutely shocking.
According to WXYZ, the Macomb County Sheriff office received a call from William Kucharski Jr's sister claiming he had allegedly strangled his dad's dog which is a Labrador retriever. Kucharski Jr's sister also mentioned her brother was possibly armed.
Sheriff deputies arrived on the scene and quickly confirmed the dog was dead which led to Kucharski being taken into custody. Kucharski has since been charged with 3rd-degree animal torture/kill and incarcerated on a $150,000 bond.
What is confusing about this story, and maybe its a father trying to protect his son, but the suspects father Bill Kucharski claims his son wouldn't do this to the family dog. Kucharski said, "There's no way he would've hurt that dog." Then he claimed he thought the dog died of old age.

A necropsy is being done to find out the exact cause of the dogs death.
