Creston Brewery in Grand Rapids Permanently Closes

It's been a rough start to the year for Grand Rapids foodies and adult beverage lovers. Multiple restaurants have closed recently - including Beacon Corner Bar and Rockwell Republic.

Sadly, Grand Rapids is saying goodbye to another brewpub and eatery. It actually closed previously back in 2020 and reopened in late 2021 under new ownership.

Creston Brewery on Plainfield Ave. shuttered in March of 2020 amid the pandemic. Months later, it remained closed, with owners sharing to Facebook, "the pandemic has created uncertainty for our business as it has for many others, but we are working hard behind the scenes to find a solution so that Creston Brewery can still be your favorite neighborhood spot..."

In the spring of 2021 Saugatuck Brewing Co. announced it had acquire Creston Brewery and would be reopening it.

Creston reopened its doors in fall of 2021, serving pub fare, beer, wine, and spirits. The menu included sandwiches, burgers, and large plates like Brisket Garlic Noodles, Hanger Steak, and Moroccan Marinated Chicken, plus specials like past dishes and fish and chips.

Unfortunately Creston Brewery has announced its permanent closure, effective immediately. On March 3, the news was posted to Facebook. The owners say,

This decision was not made lightly—it comes with great difficulty and heartbreak. The craft beer industry has faced some incredibly challenging times, and while we’ve poured our hearts into this space, we’ve had to make difficult decisions to adapt to an ever-changing landscape. This is not the outcome we ever imagined, but it’s one we’ve come to with great care and consideration.

They thank their employees and the community that supported them.

The Saugatuck Brewing location on Blue Star Highway in Douglas remains open. However, we now know the Kalamazoo location will not reopen following a firing in August.
