Twinkies - you know, those delicious, cream-filled foamy cakes from your childhood? Turns out they're chock full of preservatives and now we have definitive proof.

Back in 1976, Roger Bennatti, a chemistry teacher in Blue Hill, ME, was teaching his class about food and preservatives. Students brought Bennatti a Twinkie, which he unwrapped and just sat on his desk. The Twinkie sat in the classroom for the next 28 years, practically unchanged, until Bennatti retired in 2004. He then passed the Twinkie torch along to another employee at the school. It now sits in her office in a small, glass case.

For the most part, the Twinkie is still recognizable. It's not as yellow as it used to be, but the shape is exactly the same. A few crumbs have fallen off of it, but you can definitely tell that it's still a Twinkie. As for finding someone willing to take a bite of the sugary relic? Good luck with that!
