Yeah Yeah Yeahs New Album Confirmed for Spring 2013
A week after debuting a new song at an ultra-intimate benefit concert in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have confirmed plans to issue a new album in spring 2013. The as-yet-untitled disc will be their first since 'It's Blitz' dropped in 2010 and their fourth overall.
"DNA upgrades, spontaneous evolution and NEW YEAH YEAH YEAHS RECORD ARRIVING SPRING 2013! finally," the New York-based trio wrote in a Twitter post that went up this morning (Dec. 17). While your guess as to what the "DNA upgrades" and "spontaneous evolution" is all about, we're guessing that everybody agrees on the the meaning of -- and is probably quite stoked about -- that third item.
The post confirms a report last month from KCRW host Jason Bentley that a new album from the band was on the way. Former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy also suggested last month that the YYYs were "done with their record now" in an article in which he also denied reports that he was producing the disc, although he did admit that he did some work on it. "I just did a little fun stuff," he said. "Nothing really big."
Few other details have emerged on the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs disc, and although some video of the band's Dec. 8 Brooklyn gig has surfaced on YouTube, footage of the band performing their new song, tentatively titled 'Despair,' is yet to be seen.
