The community of Wyoming is joining a Michigan couple in their fight against Alzheimer's.

Alan Beamer, a graduate of Wyoming High School, is fighting Visual Variant Alzheimer's, a form of the disease often paired with dementia and unexplained vision loss. He and his wife, Mary, shared their story in a video that has gone viral.

Beamer's alma mater dedicated Friday night's basketball game to Alan Beamer and families living with Alzheimer's, Fox 17 reports.

Wyoming High School players wore Alan's name on their warm-up jerseys while raising money for the National Alzheimer's Association.

Alan said of the fundraiser to Fox 17, "These people coming here this year and doing this wonderful kind of stuff like them, I just wanna kiss em."

Alan attended the school back when it was known as Rogers. A star football player, Beamer went on to play at Ferris State University. He and Mary have been married for 20 years and live in Big Rapids, where Alan served as a gym teacher, coach and principal.

In their emotional video, which has caught global attention, the Beamers explain what living with Alzheimer's is like and what they want their family and friends to know.

The Beamer's video was originally posted to Mary's Facebook page. You can help the Beamers by donating to their GoFundMe page.
