Woodland Skating Center on 28th Street is closing. Fox 17 reports that Woodland Skating has sold the facility to a company called Woodland Indoor Sports who are planning to renovate the complex.

Woodland Sports Center opened in 1969 and at the time was West Michigan's largest roller skating rink. Over time, tennis and volleyball courts, and soccer fields were added.

The building will close for remodeling April 18. The new owners plan to add basketball courts and improve the soccer fields.

According to a post on Woodland Skating Center's Facebook page, the new owners are not planning to use the building as a skating center:

Woodlane Skating Center would like to thank you our loyal skaters for honor of letting us serve you for the past 47 years. It is with heavy heart that we have to inform you that we have sold our building and will be closing Woodland Skating Center. We are also sorry to inform you that the new owners will not be opening the building as a skating center."

The final skate is Saturday, April 9.
