It has been 11 years since 9/11 and West Michigan honors all those that lost their lives in the tragic events.

Boy Scouts Salute on September 11th

Schedule of events for the Boy Scout Salute in Remembrance of September 11
7:15am - The Scout Salute begins by loweing the flag from full to half mast.

8:46am - The Remembrance Program begins.  The Boy Scouts will be accompanied by the Grand Rapids Police Department Honor Guards, the Grand Rapids Fire Department, and military units.  Everyone will join together for a moment of silence to commemorate the civilians that died when the first plane hit the Northern tower.  The moment of silence will be followed by remarks by Steven Ford, President Gerald R. Ford's son.

12:00pm - Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell will honor the men and women who serve the community as members of fire and police departments, EMS and the military.

7:45pm - Closing program, featuring bagpipe players and taps performed by veterans, will include remarks from Mike Sulgrove, CEO of the President Ford Council before the final salute and the flag being raised to full-staff.

Cornerstone students display flags to remember 9-11

In a secluded spot on the campus of Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids there are 2,996 American flags in the ground, one for each person who was killed in the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks.
