With League of Legends continually adding more champions to its roster, truly unique abilities are becoming less common. At one time Warwick's Infinite Duress was the only suppression ability, Anivia had the only ability that created terrain, and Singed had the only fling ability. Those days are gone and Riot has rehashed the same abilities over and over. But there still remain a few abilities that are just unlike any others, and this is a list of those abilities.

    Kayle's Intervention

(Active): Kayle bathes a target ally champion (or herself) in holy light, rendering them immune to all damage for a few seconds.

This is the only ability in the game that completely negates all damage for a period of time. You might be saying, "What about Tryndamere's ultimate?" Well, his ability makes him immune to dying not immune to damage. Below is a great example of Kayle using her ultimate effectively.

    Rumble's The Equalizer

(Active): Rumble calls down a line of rockets over the target linear location, using a click and drag targeting system. The rockets deal initial magic damage to all enemies hit on arrival, and also leave a trail of destruction for 5 seconds that slows by 35% and deals magic damage every second to all enemies standing on the area.

Being the only skillshot of it's kind, the equalizer was a bitch to land correctly when Rumble was first released. And until recently, the ultimate was totally unusable with smartcasting (haven't tried it since Riot said they fixed it... anyone know if it works now?) Below is an example of a fail Rumble ulti, that turned into a double kill ^^

    Nasus' Siphoning Strike

(Active): Nasus's next attack will deal additional damage. Siphoning Strike permanently gains 3 stacked damage whenever it kills an enemy champion, minion or neutral monster.

Nasus' Siphoning Strike is one of 3 infinitely scaling abilities in the game (Viegar and Sion have infinitely scaling abilities as well, but they aren't directly tied to damage). Below is an example of Nasus farming his Siphoning Strike to the Nth degree...

    Maokai's Sapling Toss

(Active): Maokai hurls a sapling to a target area, dealing magic damage on impact. The sapling becomes implanted in the ground, warding a nearby area for up to 35 seconds. After a 1 second delay after landing, the sapling will seek out nearby enemies. When an enemy approaches, the sapling will chase for up to 2.5 seconds and explode in an arcane blast that deals magic damage to enemies.

Tons of champions have a trap ability in their kit, but only one champion has a trap that gets up and chases after you! Maokai's Sapling Toss was a well designed ability that brings both a huge amount of harass and utility to his kit. In the video below, Maokai uses his Sapling Toss to continually harass an enemy Nasus.

    Orianna's Shockwave

(Active): Orianna commands her ball to unleash a shockwave after a short delay, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies and flinging them into the air a set distance towards, and possibly over, the Ball. When the target(s) land they will be stunned for 1 second

Orianna has one of the most unique mechanics in the game. And to add to that uniqueness, her ultimate is the only ability to have a gravity well effect in the game. Riot should take a lesson from this champions outside the box design. Orianna has probably the most unique play style in the game and one of the highest skillcaps. Watch below as Orianna perfectly lands her ultimate, decimating the enemy team!

    Rammus' Powerball

(Active): Rammus switches to his ball state, continually increasing his movement speed. Upon impacting with his enemies, they will be knocked back for an instant and be dealt magic damage. Additionally, targets affected by the impact will be slowed for 3 seconds. Powerball lasts for up to 8 seconds.

Sure, it's a speed buff, and that isn't very unique. But it is the most powerful speed buff in the game and it makes our little armadillo friend look like Sonic the Hedgehog. So I had to add it to the list... OK? In the video below Rammus breaks the LoL land speed record.

    Poppy's Diplomatic Immunity

(Active): Poppy focuses intensely on a single enemy champion, dealing increased damage to them, and becoming immune to any damage and abilities from enemies other than her target. Damage increase applies to summoner spells and items used by Poppy.

I bet if you asked anybody, no one can tell you EXACTLY what Poppy's ultimate does. And for that reason, Poppy's Diplomatic Immunity makes the top 10 most unique abilities list. Sure, it's a little bit like Kayle's ultimate, but not really. Also, the fact that the ultimate is rarely used as Riot intended, just makes it that much more unique. Below is a perfect example of how to properly use her ulti. (use it on the lowest damage dealer and then head for the highest damaged dealer and burst burst burst!)

    Urgot's Hyper-Kinetic Position Reverser

(Active): Urgot targets an enemy champion and channels for 1 second, suppressing the target for the duration. After the channel, Urgot and the target will swap positions and the target will be slowed by 40% for 3 seconds. Urgot will gain bonus armor and magic resistance for 5 seconds starting since the beggining of the channel time.

Urgot's Hyper-Kinetic Position Reverser is the only position swapping ability in the game. There are position altering abilities all over the place, but the only true position swapping ability is found on Urgot, the forgotten AD carry. Watch below as a uncommon turn of events doubles Urgot's ulti range.

    Heimer's H-28G Evolution Turret

(Active): Heimerdinger constructs a Turret with 260 + (15 × level) health that fires at nearby enemies, dealing magic damage (half damage to towers and inhibitors). Heimerdinger stores enough parts for a new turret every 25 seconds (affected by cooldown reduction). Turrets attack 50% faster for the first 6 seconds after placement. Turrets disappear automatically when Heimerdinger dies. Turrets receive upgrades and transform with every ability rank.

TURRRRRRRRETS!!! One of the most broken abilities of all time, is also one of the most unique. This ability is what makes Heimer. Sadly, that means that this one ability determines whether or not he is viable. And currently, he is not. Although if you are able to use his turrets to their full advantage, as was the case in the video below, he can still be useful to your team.

    Karma's Mantra

(Active): Karma empowers her next ability to do an additional effect. Karma gains a charge over time and stores up to 2 charges. The refresh rate is reduced by cooldown reduction and does not progress when having max charges.

The number one most unique ability in League of Legends has to go to Karma's level 1 "Ultimate". It was an interesting idea that Riot implemented, but it just isn't strong enough to rob Karma of that 4th ability. It's good to see that Riot is willing to go with nontraditional ideas, but they need to really go back and look at these concepts when they are under powered. Below is a video of Karma doing quite well (she isn't the worst champ and she can still be played quite well, so don't say I said she sucks)
