Free Beer & Hot Wings: Who Does the Free Beer Bobblehead Look Like? [Poll]

The local Midwest League Class A baseball team, the West Michigan Whitecaps, approached us a few months ago about doing a bobblehead night for a member of the show.

Free Beer was selected this year's recipient of having a bobblehead made in his likeness. He also won our online contest to see if it should be him.

His bobblehead night was Thursday night at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Mich.

West Michigan Whitecaps Rebuild Fifth/Third Ballpark [Video/Photos]

Following the fire in January that devastated many in West Michigan and left Fifth/Third Ballpark in a state that had many of us wondering if Opening Day would happen on time, the West Michigan Whitecaps have been hard at work rebuilding their home.

Opening Day for the Whitecaps at Fifth/Third Ballpark in Comstock Park is Tuesday, and West Michiganders are eagerly awaiting their first look at the revamped ballpark. I managed to get some sneak peek photos of the rebuild courtesy of my boyfriend (he's been on the crew rebuilding the park).

Vote for the Whitecaps’ Newest Food Item

The West Michigan Whitecaps are rebuilding their ballpark following the fire back in January and preparing for their season. As part of that, they're doing a lot of things and asking for the public's input.

First, they asked fans to design their jerseys for Social Media Night. Then, they asked for suggestions for the name of their new mascot. Now, they want the public to vote for which new food item they should add to their menu for the coming season.

Fifth Third Ballpark suffered a major fire on Friday, with more than $500,000 in damage apparently caused by a space heater.

Since the fire, the Whitecaps have made one thing clear: they will be back and ready to play this spring.

Whitecaps After Fifth Third Ballpark Fire: ‘They Will Come Again’ [Video]

The West Michigan Whitecaps' ownership expects to rebuild Fifth Third Ballpark in the wake of a Friday blaze that damaged the Comstock Park facility.

A space heater started a small blaze Friday morning at the ballpark, but workers believed they had put it out. They returned to find the space in flames, Plainfield Township Fire Chief David Peterson said.

Fifth Third Ballpark is the home of the Midwest League Class A professional baseball team. It is slated to host the 50th Midwest League All-Star Game on June 17, 2014.

Team officials expect the Whitecaps to play the 2014 season, host the all-star game and rebuild the ballpark.

Fifth Third Ballpark Fire [Video Link]

UPDATE (2:50pm): In a news conference held Friday afternoon, West Michigan Whitecaps Managing Partner Denny Baxter shed some light on the fire and on the future of Fifth Third Ballpark and the West Michigan Whitecaps. He said of the future: "If we rebuild it, they will come once again." Baxter assured the community that the Whitecaps will be playing baseball come April 8th of this year (opening day). He got choked up several times during the news conference, and expressed that the Whitecaps organization is "more than a business, it's a community member."
