In Grand Rapids Tuesday, an armed man barricaded himself in a home after being served a search warrant from police.

According to Fox 17, Kent County Sheriff's Department officials attempted to serve a search warrant to a 30-year-old man at a home on Plymouth Avenue just north of 44th Street. The man held a gun to his head then barricaded himself inside the home.

The four hour standoff started around 1:30 p.m. and ended when the man surrendered to police without injury.

Grand Rapids Police Department Sargent, Catherine Williams said, "During situations like this when an individual is in a crisis and we have no reason to believe that are others in danger in the home, we want slow everything down. This is especially true when the individual is willing to communicate with negotiators."

The search warrant was issued because the man was wanted on a charge of stealing and concealing stolen property over $1000.

The man will be identified after his formal arraignment. It is not clear at this time if the man will face additional charges due to the standoff with police.
