Are you living in the safest city in Michigan?  There’ a good chance you do or at least know someone who does!

The website homesnacks.net (I know, it’s hard to take this website serious because of their name, but I promise, you’ll like their results,) recently decided to try to find the safest cities to live in here in Michigan.

They used a bunch of smarty pants science formulas…actually they used the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report from 2014 (the most recent), which looks at different crimes in each city, then homesnacks.net took three numbers for any city in Michigan with over 5,000 residents: .

We used three criteria:

  • Violent crimes per capita (murders, assaults, rapes, armed robberies)

  • Property crimes per capita (thefts, burglaries, motor vehicle thefts)

  • Total crimes per capita

All that information when analyzed found the safest city in Michigan is none other than, Gaines Township!

They’re not saying this is the reason, but I believe the city’s safety is because of the Steelcase Pyramid.  I’m going to go ahead and make up the fact that cities with pyramids have less crime overall.  Do you ever hear about crime in Memphis, Tenn?  They have a pyramid, too. Ok, bad example, because you do hear about crime there….

LET’S FOCUS on the facts instead. Gaines Township is the safest city in Michigan!  Woo hoo!

Other (good) notable mentions are:

  1. East Grand Rapids
  2. Grand Rapids
  3. Rockford

While Kentwood (154) Grandville (155) and Belding (156) land a little lower on the list.

The most surprising for me, though, is the fact that Muskegon, Muskegon Heights, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek all land at the bottom of the list with Muskegon Heights holding number 194. Making those cities part of the Top 10 Least Safest Cities To Live in Michigan, along with Flint and Detroit.

I wouldn’t have thought Kalamazoo and Muskegon would be just a couple cities safer than Detroit; I had higher expectations.
