Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine To Appear as Featured Soloist With San Diego Symphony

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has been named as a featured soloist for California’s San Diego Symphony. The thrash shredder will participate in an April 2014 program, which will feature music from Richard Wagner, Antonio Vivaldi and Antonin Dvorak.

It may not quite be a ‘Symphony of Destruction’ (Get it?! ‘Cuz it’s a Megadeth song!), but the team of Dave Mustaine and the San Diego Symphony will certainly showcase a fascinating partnership. Mustaine currently resides in San Diego, so to provide some shredding guitar work for his home base’s official symphony is a great honor.

Megadeth announced the news via their official website:

Dave Mustaine will be a featured soloist with the San Diego Symphony in April, 2014, in a program that will include Wagner‘s “Ride of the Valkyries” from “Die Walküre“, Vivaldi‘s “Winter” from “The Four Seasons” and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (the “New World” Symphony). Executive director Edward “Ward” Gill said it’s all about reaching new audiences, while music director Jahja Ling said he had a good meeting with Mustaine, and he may conduct the concert himself (no conductor is listed at this point, and Mustaine‘s exact involvement is still being worked out).

The countdown to Mustaine’s appearance with the symphony is still over a year away, but we’ll be sure to provide updates on Mustaine’s classical endeavor as news continues to break. In the meantime.
