We broke the news not too long ago that Mastodon had finished recording their sixth studio album. The hugely anticipated record is expected for a summer release, but the entire process isn't done yet. In a message posted on Mastodon's Facebook page, the band reveals the record is now in the mastering process.

"Dearest Mastodon fans, after many hours in the studio riffing out, we are excited to announce our new album is almost complete. It is in the finals of being mastered. We are gearing up for our US tour with Gojira and Kvelertak next month! Looking forward to seeing you all out there on the High Road in May!"

It wouldn't be a Mastodon album without a guest appearance from Neurosis vocalist / guitarist Scott Kelly. Guitarist Bill Kelliher has confirmed that Kelly will be a part of the new record. Kelliher says, "He always sings on a song and it’s sounds tough as nails. It’s exciting and I can’t wait for it to reach the masses and for people to hear it.”

Before the Mastodon album is released, frontman Troy Sanders' side project Killer Be Killed will unleash its debut album. The self-titled effort that also features Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato, Sepultura / Soulfly legend Max Cavalera and former Mars Volta drummer David Elitch will be released May 13.

The band has a busy touring schedule ahead. They kick of a headlining trek with Gojira and Kvelertak on April 29 in Portland, Ore. In June they'll be playing Bonnaroo, and Mastodon are also slated to make an appearance at Montebello, Quebec's PNR Amnesia Rockfest that same month. They have several European shows and festivals slated for the summer, as well.
