Former Megadeth Guitarist Marty Friedman Not Closing Door on Return to Band

One of the biggest questions as we enter 2015 is what will Megadeth look like when they return for their next album. The band has reportedly been in the studio working on new music, but the current lineup remains shrouded in mystery as both guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover split from the band in November. As expected, a number of past Megadeth players have been asked about their potential return, and guitarist Marty Friedman answered in a recent interview.

When questioned by MyGlobalMind.com about whether the door had closed for him regarding Megadeth, the axeman answered, “I don’t really have an answer for you. I know people would want to know. Honestly, I don’t have an answer. I have never said never to anything in life, so who knows? I don’t really know.”

Friedman played with Megadeth from 1990 to 2000, and is considered one of their premier guitarists. He appeared on five studio albums, including ‘Rust in Peace’ and ‘Countdown to Extinction.’ For the past 10-plus years he’s been living in Japan hosting Japanese television shows and working on other projects.

Prior to the exits of Broderick and Drover, Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine was asked whether he would ever consider bringing back such players as Friedman and drummer Nick Menza, to which he replied that it would be like “putting a rotten tooth back in your mouth.”

Add to that that Mustaine said before the new year that fans would be “very happy” to know what’s going on with the group right now, suggesting Megadeth may have already found their new members.
