For Kittie fans, the sight of the current lineup of Kittie together with some of the band’s former members in a photo is enough to garner their attention. But it doesn’t stop there as the recent photo shoot was part of a promotion to announce plans for a crowd-funding campaign to put together a new documentary DVD and book to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary.
The group had been teasing a big announcement for a few weeks and on Saturday (March 29), they finally unveiled the news of their campaign. The group sought to raise $20,000 to offset the costs of hiring the staff and crew to put together both their director for the documentary and the author of their biography.
In their statement on the project, the past and present group members said:
For 20 years we have given our blood, our sweat, and our tears. We have toured the world, met thousands of amazing people, traveled a million miles, laughed with you, cried with you, screamed with you, waited out in the cold with you, bled with you and grown up with you. We have defied the rules, the status quo and sometimes even each other. We have broken the mould by which metal had cast for us and sprinkled its shards kicking and screaming across 5 continents, 6 albums and thousands of shows.
Whether we have been there for 2 years, or for 20, you have stood by us. We have done all these things together, with you, and now it is time to give back to you, to say thank you for 20 years of your continued love, support and understanding. We have seen it all together, but what you know is only half the story.
The band will be sifting through their personal footage, concerts and material to come up with both the DVD and the book. My Good Eye Productions (who helmed their last four music videos) will help oversee the compiling and editing of the footage and directing any additional segments to be included. As for the book project, Kittie have secured Mark Eglinton to help with putting it together. Eglinton has enjoyed prior success with the biography of Pantera‘s Rex Brown. And a portion of the $20,000 raised will also aid in Eglinton’s funding for the book.
Within the first 24 hours, the goal for their Indiegogo campaign was met and there was a message on the site that Kittie may be adding even more perks for fans to bid upon given the success of the campaign. Some of the big ticket items already sold include an ESP Morgan Lander Flying V guitar and a BC Rich Custom ‘Oracle’-era bass. Items still on the block include early DVD sneak previews and a variety of bundle packages that include the DVD, book, t-shirts, guitar and bass picks, signed posters and more.
