We all knew Ronnie James Dio was one of the most down-to-earth rock stars, but Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale reveals just how awesome he was.

Despite being in a huge amount of pain, Dio performed a full set and hung out with opener Halestorm after the show.

“Ronnie was one of those guys who would stand in the snow for three hours and sign every autograph. He was such a big name that he could have been a primadonna if he’d wanted to – he’d earned it," Lzzy told Rock AAA.

“But he was really down to earth.  We got to hang out with the guys afterwards and I’d never been star-struck in my life until that night.

“I remember Ronnie talking to my brother and I about our fans and how important they are.  He said: ‘It’s just a tiny moment for you – but for them that moment lasts a lifetime.  So you have to make it special for them.’

“That moment with Ronnie will last a lifetime with me.”

Ronnie James Dio died from stomach cancer in May earlier this year.  My respect for Dio was already high, but damn it goes through the roof now.

R.I.P. Dio.
