Following the sniper shootings in Dallas in which seven police were injured and five killed, Grand Rapids police are putting two officers in each patrol car through the weekend, MLive reports.

GRPD say it is a safety precaution to pair the officers up rather than have them riding alone, which is normally the case. The doubling-up will be in effect for all shifts.

Earlier today, the GRPD posted their condolences to the men and women in the Dallas Police Department affected by the shootings, saying,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the men and women of the Dallas, Texas area Law Enforcement agencies. We cannot fathom the incredible loss and our hearts are breaking for their families, friends, and co-workers."

They also remembered fallen GRPD Officer Robert Kozminski, who was killed nine years ago today in a shooting.
