Good news for singles in GR!

According to finance website, GOBankingRates, Grand Rapids comes in at No. 3 on its list of 15 Most Affordable Cities for Singles.

GOBankingRates analyzed 89 major U.S. cities, comparing the cost of rent, date nights, gym memberships, and clothing staples (the cost of business shoes, sport shoes, jeans, and a dress were averaged, according to Thrillist).

“Movies and TV shows glamorize being single in a big city, but the unspoken factor is how incredibly expensive it can be,” said GOBankingRates Editor-in-Chief Casey Bond in a press release. “Costs run especially high in major cities like New York, Washington and San Francisco, where the cost of being fit and looking fashionable to attract a significant other are higher than most other parts of the country.”

How did Grand Rapids rate?

"The average cost of clothing staples is $50 in Grand Rapids, which is good news for singles layering up for the cold Michigan winters. The cost of rent per square foot is affordable at 73 cents — not bad for being just 30 miles from the Lake Michigan."

The top spot went to Reno, Nev., with gym memberships averaging $20.67 per month, a night out at $97.30, and 86 cents per square foot for rent.
