'Tis the season for shopping for board games, toys, and other fun Christmas gifts. What are the hot toys this holiday season?

ToyAwards.org is dedicated to finding out. A Grand Rapids' attorney's board game has been nominated for the Toy of the Year Awards 2016!

According to WZZM-13, Grand Rapids' Bob Kamp's game has been on the market for a little over a year.

Kemp says he's always enjoyed word games, playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles with his wife. He worked hard to create his own game, and after meeting with various potential game publishers in 2012, the game finally came to be as "Choice Words".

Here's a description of the game from publisher Mindware:

When you play Choice Words, recalling popular phrases is only half the battle. With two types of game play, you'll need to match other players' answers - either the most or the least! In "Scratch Play," score one point for each phrase that other players haven't thought of. In "Match Play," score points for correctly guessing how other players will fill in the blanks. As time runs out, the phrases get more far-flung in this hilarious contest of wits and words."

Kemp says "It's great for English as a second language, it's great for seniors, it's great for young learners."

The game is available on Amazon and at other retailers.

Choice Words was announced as a finalist in the Toy Awards "Game of the Year" category Nov. 17, when voting began.

Voting will close Sunday, January 17, 2016 and the the winners will be announced during a celebration in New York on February 12th.
