Free Beer & Hot Wings: The Race for the Aged [Video]

Our intern, Catie, is a collegiate runner with Aquinas College.

On the air during "The Free Beer & Hot Wings Morning Show" one day a couple weeks ago, we wondered if four of us from the show could beat her in a race.

We would run the race relay-style and she'd run on her own.

Meijer LPGA Classic Presented by Kraft Reveals #GRgyle [Video]

LPGA pros Morgan Pressel and Nicole Castrale might not have quite arrived with a fashion suggestion revealed this morning, but they both embrace the reasons behind the red argyle that's popped up around Grand Rapids since May 9.

Those somewhat iconic red argyle socks have been showing up in greater Grand Rapids at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, Rosa Parks Circle, at other downtown Grand Rapids locations and even the Tulip Time Festival last month in Holland.

The campaign is all tied to the inaugural Meijer LPGA Classic Presented by Kraft, which is teeing off Aug. 7 to 10 at Blythefield Country Club. Consider the red argyle campaign with the #GRgygle hashtag as Walker-based Meijer's nudge for a community-focused LPGA tournament with all proceeds to benefit Meijer's Simply Give food pantry-supporting and hunger-fighting program.

Tickets for the Meijer Classic, which will have a 144-player field vying for $1.5 million in prize money, went on sale today.

24-Year-Old Cold Case Grand Rapids Murder Reopened; Film About Slaying Debuts This Week

Grand Rapids police have reopened their investigation into the murder of 23-year-old Joel Battaglia.

Battaglia died on June 11, 1990, from injuries suffered in a beating. He was last seen leaving Mulligan's Pub in Grand Rapids' Eastown neighborhood early that morning.

Battaglia was found, beaten and unconscious, a half mile away from the pub where he was last spotted, at 1065 Lake Drive SE. Robbed and left without identification, Joel lay in the morgue unidentified for a day. A tattoo of a phoenix on his right ankle enabled investigators to put his name with his body.

Ah, the summer. The time of the year where the box office is ruled by superhero movies, science fiction extravaganzas and, uh, slightly quirky cancer weepies. What? For reasons that will baffle some people, 'The Fault in Our Stars' effortlessly took the number one spot at the box office this weekend, gliding past its bigger, more expensive and more ferocious competition and making it look easy.

As "summer vacation season" heats up in Michigan, many people will head to the beach, soak up some sun and spend time in the water. But, what if someone - maybe a family member - was drowning?  Would you realize it?  Do you think it would be like what you see on TV or in the movies?
