Grand Rapids Voted Best Beer Town in the USA

Grand Rapids wins another title in the name of craft beer!

Already the reigning Beer City USA, Grand Rapids has now claimed the title  “Best Beer Town in the USA” in USA Today's and 10Best's annual poll.

The honor was just bestowed at noon. Tampa; Asheville, N.C.; Bend, Ore.; and Fort Collins, Colo., were also in the top five.

Free Beer & Hot Wings: Producer Joe’s ArtPrize Contribution [Video]

Here in Grand Rapids there's an annual art contest called ArtPrize.

It's a 19-day city-wide art exhibit in which artists display their work for everyone to see. People and a juried panel then vote on which pieces they think are the best and the winners receive $560,000 in cash prizes. There are many mediums, including paintings, drawings, sculpture and even performance art.

One piece was titled "Hey YouTube, It's Me."

Bank of Ann Arbor Not Closed On Columbus Day Because ‘Columbus Is In Ohio’

Those of us who have grown up in Michigan know that there has always been hatred towards Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio among Michiganders. Particularly from fans of the University of Michigan.

A bank in Ann Arbor has used that hatred to justify keeping their doors open this Columbus Day, which is generally a "bank holiday". They explained on their Facebook page:

Anila Quayyum Agha’s “Intersections” is the public vote grand prize winner of ArtPrize 2014.

The juried grand prize produced a tie between Quayyum Agha’s “Intersections” at Grand Rapids Art Museum and Sonya Clark’s “The Hair Craft Project” at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.

Quayyum Agha's wins, announced Friday night in ceremonies at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, total $300,000 for the Indianapolis resident.
