Traverse City doesn’t go to sleep in December. Instead, it becomes a magnet for skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoe hikers who consider this one of the country’s most beautiful winter destinations – and for visitors who know that this is the best time to sample its cozy indoor hideaways, tempting cuisine and vibrant music scene.
While Grand Rapids continues to get praise for the many things the city has to offer, a city a mere hour and forty-five minutes from here isn't so lucky. Albion, Michigan has been named by the Princeton Review as one of the worst college towns in America.
As usual, the Lions are having another stellar season. They will have to win the remaining games to hit the 10 win level that they reached last season. In other words, there's a good chance they won't make the playoffs again. But, regardless of their record, the Lions ALWAYS play one high profile game a year. On Thanksgiving.
Taking a page right out of the "Never Been Kissed" playbook (Drew Barrymore? "Josie Grossie"? C'mon! You know you saw that movie.) a 21-year-old Lansing man forged documents to pose as a high school student. James Nash transferred to Mount Pleasant High School during the first week of school, claiming to be 17-year-old Javier Jones. Now why would anyone ever want to go back to high school? This is an odd, somewhat sad, story of a Michigan woman who won a million dollars from the lottery. Amanda Clayton won the lottery last fall yet continued to use food stamps in to purchase groceries. What she did was completely legal, although it does cross a few moral and ethical lines. About a year after winning the lotto, Amanda was found dead of an apparent overdose on September 29th.
