It may come as a surprise to some, but in my 14-year radio career in which I've spent the entire time on the air at rock stations in the cities of Lansing, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Atlanta and now Grand Rapids, I have NEVER played a single request from a listener on my show.

It's a streak that I am very proud of.

However, I still get calls every day from listeners requesting songs.

I usually tell the callers the same old radio lies like "I'll see if I can find it", "I'll try to get that on for you", or "I'll get to it but it might be a while."

My streak of not playing requests is like a personal badge of honor for me.

I view the streak the same way Cal Ripken, Jr. must have viewed his consecutive games played streak.

I will never play your requests on the air and I am happy Mrs. Ripken was unharmed after being taken hostage recently.

However...

Sometimes I like the song that is requested.

Sometimes I wish I could play it once on my show.

But I will NEVER break my streak of not playing requests.

But I will do the listener a gigantic favor.

I will do all the legwork.

I will save you time and trouble.

I will go on Youtube and find the song you are looking for because I care about you and want to help.

And I will post the video on the Shaffee page right here on WGRD.COM

Today a caller requested the song "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus.

I haven't heard the song in a while but I've always thought it was pretty cool.

Any song that mentions "Iron Maiden" is cool.

Now, thanks to me, the guy who requested this song can visit my blog page and watch this video and listen to this song over and over and over again if he wishes.

So for the listener who requested this song...

You're welcome!

Regards,
Shaffee
