American Idol Gets Metal

Fox’s long running music competition series American Idol had a refreshing change of pace from all the pop covers earlier this week courtesy of contestant James Durbin.  The Santa Cruz, CA native belted out a rendition of Judas Priest’s “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’”.

In a surprise move, Durbin had the crowd on their feet with his high vocals and flamboyant moves that would make Rob Halford nod in approval.  Idol judge Steven Tyler did not sugarcoat his feelings on Durbin’s performance.

“That was f____’ crazy good man!  I think all of America agrees.  I think that’s the first Judas Priest song we had on the show…Ever!”

When you have the singer of Aerosmith screaming profanity-laced praises at you, that has to be a good sign.  Check out the performance for yourself below.  Do you metal heads approve?
