What is Michigan’s Favorite Halloween Treat?
Halloween seems to be the season for lists. From the Most Popular Candy to the Scariest Movies to the Spookiest Destinations in Michigan.
But what is everyone's favorite Halloween Treat? Inquiring minds wanted to know. Thanks to Google's annual Frightgeist report we now have the answer. This report sheds some light on just what everyone is searching for based on their region, including Halloween recipes.
A lot of the results were exactly what I would have guessed...things like Caramel Apples and Popcorn Balls. But then there were a few things that took me by surprise.
For example, the favorite Halloween treat in Arkansas was something called a Bloody Cake. I had never heard of such of thing, so I did just like everyone else and "Googled" it only to find out that Bloody Cake is just a white cake covered in red frosting that looks like blood dripping down the side.
Here is a recipe if you'd like to make one of your own...
Then there were a few other surprises as well...
Connecticut likes Halloween mashed potatoes. Once again I have never heard of such a thing until now.
And then we get into treats involving body parts. Things like Halloween Fingers (Georgia), Edible Eyeballs (Illinois), Feet Loaf (Kentucky), and Jello Brain (Oregon).
There were some more "normal" responses as well. Five states liked Popcorn Balls. Caramel apples and Candy Apples we also mentioned a few times.
Here in Michigan, it looks like the favorite treat is Halloween Popcorn Balls. Boring when you look at the results from the other 50 states.
I'm off to make some Ghoulash for dinner! (One of my favorites from years ago!)
And I might just try Feet Loaf to go along with it!
