I have always been a huge history nerd. I am a frequent visitor to the Grand Rapids Public Museum, and one of my favorite memories as a kid was visiting the City Museum in St. Louis and climbing inside the school bus that hangs off the top of the building.

Because of this, anytime I take a trip around the country, my favorite places to pop into are small museums that offer a sense of local history, explore subjects not explored before, or are sometimes home to a museum you would never expect to exist (like the National Mustard Museum or the Pilgrim Hall).

As it turns out, Michigan has quite an eclectic range of museums across the state, from historical explorations to nature interactions to nostalgia trips. There are only 12 state museums and historic sites, but once you look outside the state-run ones, the number increases drastically.
