The State of Michigan Doesn’t Think That Throwing Axes While Drinking is a Good Idea
Apparently the State of Michigan doesn't think that throwing axes while drinking is the safest thing to do.
WZZM-13 reports that the Michigan Liquor Control Commission suspended the liquor license at Hub Stadium in Auburn Hills due to their axe-throwing activities.
The suspension lasted for one day, Sept. 10, so the bar could "make numerous structural changes."
MLCC chairman Andy Deloney said in a statement,
“We were not made aware by the licensee during the licensing application process of any plans for axe throwing at the establishment. When it came to our attention, we investigated the licensee thoroughly and took appropriate disciplinary action.”
According to a report, the MLCC observed the following activities:
- Consumption of alcohol in the throwing areas.
- Spectators in axe-throwing area wearing open-toed shoes
- Spectators in sandals jumping out of the way of rebounding axes to avoid having feet hit by the axe.
- No enforcement or limit on the number of axes that could be thrown at one time, or rules about axe throwing.
- No monitoring of the axe throwing area, with spectators wandering in and out.
- No enforcement of the establishment’s own stated policies, particularly regarding the prohibition of alcohol in the axe throwing areas.
At the hearing August 30 in Southfield, the owner of the bar's liquor license stated that they'd already implemented some changes and would continue to implement others.
According to WZZM-13, one can still make ax-throwing reservations on Hub Stadium’s website.
