A new bar with live jazz and blues music is planned for a spot downtown Grand Rapids that's been vacant since Raggs to Riches closed in 2012.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday near Lyon Street between Monroe and Ottawa, not far from the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Police say the attack Monday night, around 7:30 pm, was unprovoked.

The area affected is from College Ave to Lafayette Ave.

Jefferson Avenue was closed for several hours downtown Grand Rapids early Thursday morning while police investigated. According to WZZM-13, a man was hit and killed by a taxi cab after attempting to rob the driver.
