PBR Actually Made a 1,776 Pack – And Gave One to a Michigan Band
Planning to party this Fourth of July weekend? If you have a lot of friends (or are just REALLY thirsty) one of PBR's new 1,776 packs might come in handy...
Pabst Blue Ribbon made the monstrous cases of beer to celebrate Independence Day. With the number of beers to match the year America was founded, according to Forbes, the pack of brew is officially the world's largest.
The package reads,
This is the Original Past Blue Ribbon 1776 Pack. It can hold 1776 Pabst Blue Ribbon beers and infinite amounts of freedom. You're welcome, America.
Nick Reely, PBR's VP of marketing, said in the announcement,
We figured the best way to honor the year America claimed its independence was to make a box that held that many beers -- 1,776. It's the least we could do. Actually 1,776 is the most we could do because 1,777 seemed excessive.
Unfortunately you're not going to be a to find a 1,776 pack at your local party store. Bummer, I know. PBR only made four, apparently -- and one is going to a Michigan band...
Yep, Lansing's own Hot Mulligan has received a big ol' case of PBR.
According to Food & Wine, 1,776 packs also went to Igloo Coolers, skateboarding podcast crew The Nine Club, and comedian Ali Macofsky. PBR says, "Each partner will provide content (and updates) through the Summer and into Labor Day. Follow along @pabstblueribbon and #1776pack."
So... it's a marketing stunt. Of course it is. But I still think it's cool that Hot Mulligan got a bunch of beer!
Now it's not *quite* as huge as the 1,776 pack, but according to Thrillist, PBR does still make their 99 packs if you're interested --which, let's be honest, is still a ridiculous amount of beer in one case.
