Listed at $1,200, this carriage was built in 1900 and once rolled through Albion, Michigan. It features spring suspensions in the front and back, a leather and canvas top cover, and built-in side steps for easy entry.

Measuring 61 inches wide, 102 inches deep, and 80 inches high (with the top down), it’s a serious piece of transportation history.

The condition is listed as “fair,” with visible scuffing and scratching from heavy use—just what you’d expect from something that’s been around for over a century.

The MSU Surplus Store rethinks how Michigan State University disposes of used stuff. Rather than letting things end up in landfills, the store resells or recycles them—keeping MSU green and resourceful. To date, the program has diverted more than 13 million pounds of material from the landfill.

Not everything has an obvious Spartan tie-in—like this mystery carriage. Was it used in a parade? A theater department prop? Someone else wondered the same thing in the comments on the Surplus Store’s Facebook post. MSU responded that it “previously belonged to the transportation department”—whether that was serious or tongue-in-cheek is anyone’s guess. But if you’ve got the space (and maybe a horse?), it could be yours.
