Top 10 States For Jobs Revealed—Michigan Not Included
I know so many people who are looking for a new job—some have been at it for a while. With low pay, limited advancement, burnout, and the challenge of finding a workplace that feels right, it’s not easy out there. And according to a new report from WalletHub, Michigan’s job market isn’t exactly leading the pack.

How WalletHub Ranks States for Jobs
WalletHub compared all 50 states to see which ones are the best for jobs, looking at everything from employment growth and pay to commute times and job security. They split their analysis into two main categories: job market and economic environment, putting more weight on where the best opportunities actually are. Each state earned a score based on 34 different factors—things like income, worker protections, and quality of life—to come up with the final rankings.

Why Michigan Falls Behind
As you can see, Michigan didn’t make the cut. The Mitten State landed way down at No. 30, ranking 38th for job market strength and 20th for economic environment. A low job market score means fewer opportunities, slower growth, and higher unemployment—making it harder for job seekers to find well-paying, growth-friendly positions.
Worst State for Jobs
While Michigan certainly has room to improve, the good news is… we’re not at the very bottom. In case you’re curious, the state that came in last as the worst for jobs is West Virginia, with a total score of 37.93, ranking 50th for job market strength and 44th for economic environment.
