Michigan's Love of Hot Dogs, Food Trucks and Lakes

Michigan has a deep and passionate love for hot dogs, especially the iconic Coney dog and locally made natural-casing franks from beloved Michigan brands such as Koegel Meats.

Michiganders have a deep appreciation for food trucks. From bustling summer food truck festivals in Grand Rapids and Detroit to gatherings in smaller communities, these mobile eateries have become a vibrant and beloved part of Michigan’s local dining scene.

Michiganders have a deep love for life on the lake. Being near the water is a defining part of the state’s identity, with the unique distinction that no Michigander is ever more than six miles from an inland lake or 85 miles from one of the Great Lakes.

Craving a Hot Dog? Try Michigan’s "Wieners on the Water"

Hot dogs, a food truck, and a lake have come together at the sandbar on Devils Lake in Manitou Beach, Michigan. According to MLive, “Wieners on the Water” is the brainchild of hot dog entrepreneur Eric Funk. For boaters and lakegoers enjoying the water, it’s the perfect combination, a hot dog food truck serving up a classic favorite right on the lake.

Funk took the concept to the water in July 2025, putting a 1992 Chevrolet box truck on a pontoon boat and turning it into a floating hot dog stand. “Wieners on the Water” takes to the lake at 12:30 p.m. on weekends and is often sold out by 4:30 p.m. With hot dogs priced at just $3 to $5, depending on the variety, it’s easy to see why hungry lakegoers quickly line up for a bite.

If you love the food and want to support the cause, the hot dog truck also has t-shirts and hats that sports its logo "Wiener's on the Water."
