MI Fall Turkey Hunters: No Application Required Now!
Michigan fall turkey hunters no longer need to apply for a license, simplifying the process and improving access.
Michigan's Fall Turkey Hunting
I am an avid turkey hunter and have hunted them in Indiana, but never in the fall in Michigan. What I do respect about the fall hunt is that hunters have a chance to harvest a hen or a bearded Tom, unlike in the Spring when you can only hunt male birds. Like deer hunting, harvesting hens in the fall helps balance the turkey flock..
The reason I have not applied for a fall turkey hunting license is that I won't know if birds will be in my area based on the food crops. When cornfields are nearby, turkeys often stay close. Some seasons, when I’m bow hunting, I see birds, while other times I only catch a few on my trail camera around midday. Rather than paying to apply for a license, I stick to deer hunting in the fall.

Good News: No App Needed For MI Fall Turkey Hunting
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced in a press release that starting this fall, you no longer need to apply for a license to hunt wild turkey in Michigan. Fall Turkey licenses will be sold over the counter on a first-come, first-served basis.
This is a major development for fall turkey hunters, simplifying the process and promoting a healthy flock. Fall turkey licenses for public and private land go on sale August 15. The season runs from September 15 through November 14.

This gives hunters a great opportunity to harvest a hen, but I wouldn't blame a person for shooting the giant old male bird that never comes in close during the spring, but crosses your path in the fall. My boys and I will be adding fall turkey licenses to the list of tags.
