
Michigan State Police Hosting Statewide Drug Takeback Event This Saturday
Doing some spring cleaning? Don’t forget the medicine cabinet!
That bottle of expired or unused medication sitting in the back doesn’t need to stay there. There’s a safe way to get rid of it coming up statewide.

Michigan State Police are once again teaming up for a nationwide effort during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25.

All 31 MSP posts across Michigan will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for people to drop off unwanted prescription pills. It’s completely anonymous—no questions asked.
Once collected, everything is securely destroyed.
What You Can And Can't Bring
This is just for solid prescription meds like tablets and capsules.
No liquids, inhalers, patches, or syringes will be accepted.

If you’ve got old pain meds, leftover antibiotics, or prescriptions you forgot about—this is the time to get them out of the house.

Officials say proper disposal plays a key role in preventing drug misuse while also protecting the environment.

Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP, said in a release,
By taking a few minutes to clear out expired or unused pills, you are proactively helping to prevent prescription drug misuse and abuse as well as protect the environment. Drug Take Back Day allows for an accessible, anonymous, secure and easy way to partner with police to help keep Michigan communities safe.
By The Numbers
During the last Drug Take Back Day in October 2025, nearly 650 pounds of pills were collected across the state.
Can't Make It?
If you miss the April 25 event, MSP posts accept anonymous drop-offs year-round Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
