This week officially kicks off the holiday season.  It starts with Thanksgiving, then all the shopping days, Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday, Cyber Monday; but before you spend all your money on those days, don’t forget about Giving Tuesday which happens right after Cyber Monday.

Giving Tuesday is when a lot of charities across the world make one last big push for donations for the year. With how 2020 has changed everything, a lot of charities are needing extra help to continue on their mission.

One charity that is hoping you’ll give on Tuesday is Kids Food Basket. WOODTV says that on Giving Tuesday, December 1st, Kids Food Basket will be matching all donations dollar-to-dollar.

This year they need your donations more than in years past too as they’re helping serve families healthy meals in over 70 distribution locations throughout Kent, Allegan, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties.

As Bridget Clark Whitney, President and CEO of Kids Food Basket told WOODTV,

“Kids’ Food Basket is a community-funded organization. That means that all of our meals, all of our healthy food that is going into the community, is funded by you. We’re existing because of West Michigan’s generosity, and because West Michigan cares so deeply for children.”

There are a few ways you can donate and help.  WOODTV says Kids Food Baskets can take grocery donations which you can drop off at their drop-off locations or you can donate cash, which is how they'll match dollar-to-dollar on Giving Tuesday. Usually, organizations like Kids Food Basket can also make your money go further than you're able to, because of partnerships with local businesses, so the cash sometimes does more.  You can also volunteer some time with the charity, working a three-hour shift, according to WOODTV.

WOODTV also encourages anyone who is needing food assistance to reach out to the United Way of West Michigan and they can help connect you to the right service.  You can reach them by calling 211 or checking out their website.
