You Can Watch Someone Wrestle a Bear at a Grand Rapids Gold Game
If you’ve ever looked at the Grand Rapids Gold schedule and thought, “Sure, basketball is fun, but what if it was completely unhinged,” congratulations. This is your moment.
The Gold are about to host what might be the most ridiculous (in the good way) game of the year, and somehow the halftime show is about to steal the spotlight entirely.
On Saturday, January 3, the Gold are bringing back Flint Tropics Night, their theme night that pays tribute to the movie ‘Semi-Pro’ starring Will Ferrel. This year yet again they’re leaning all the way into chaos and nostalgia, with help from Pure Pro Wrestling. And if you were there last year, you already know things got weird fast.
Last year, they had a half time show featuring ‘Jackie Moon’ and a bear wrestling, just like this famous scene from Semi-Pro
Fans in Van Andel Arena watched Dewie the Bear step into the ring with Jackie Moon himself, and somehow he walked away alive.
It was a close call. This year, Jackie Moon is not making the same mistake twice.
Instead of facing Dewie alone, Jackie is bringing backup: WWE legend Rhino will be in the building, teaming up with Jackie Moon to take on Dewie the Killer Bear in what can only be described as a sentence that should not exist but somehow does.
Here’s a bonus if you decide to come see the show for yourself: with a game ticket, fans can meet Rhino for free. That includes photos and autographs, which feels like an incredible sentence to casually type about a basketball game in Grand Rapids.
Tip-off is set for 7pm on Saturday January 3rd, and tickets and full event details are available through the Grand Rapids Gold’s official website. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you when they pull out the ring that night.
