Are There Too Many Deer In Kent County?

Many who live in Kent County are saying there are too many deer causing damage and now a task force has been put together to see how to handle this problem.

Deer Are Everywhere in Kent County

There is no doubt that when you look in your backyard and you see a mama deer (doe) and her fawn it is a beautiful sight. When you are asleep, they are eating your flowers and other parts of your landscaping.

I'm amazed at how many deer I'm seeing that were hit by vehicles in the city limits of Grand Rapids. I drive down Leonard Street into Walker to pick up my son from his mom's and I see deer in people's front lawns all the time day or night. It's not just one or two deer either, it's 6 to 16 at a time.

Task Force in Kent County to Look Into What to Do About the Number of Deer

Deer are everywhere in Kent County whether you are at Riverside Park or any of the parks in downtown Grand Rapids, or in rural areas just outside of the city you have a chance at literally running into a deer with your vehicle or at least seeing one.

According to WOOD, the city of Grand Rapids and Kent County have put together a task force with representatives for Kent County and the county's cities and 21 townships. Their goal is to determine if the deer population is too high and if so, what steps can be made to lower the number of deer.

Maybe Kent County will set up some special archery or crossbow hunts to help thin these deer out as other counties and cities do. No matter what the city of Grand Rapids and Kent County come up with, it will be a while before anything is implemented.
