
Home Invasion Leaves Homeowner, Dog Stabbed By Suspect
A shocking break-in in Ottawa County has led to a homeowner and his dog getting stabbed by a suspect who is now in custody.

When it comes to crime, Ottawa County has a relatively low rate compared to other parts of Michigan. However, recent years have seen specific increases in certain crimes, such as crimes against children and homicides, while seeing some decreases in many other categories.
Overall, Ottawa County is considered a safe place to live and raise a family without many of the violent crimes that happen in Michigan's larger cities. Ottawa County is a beautiful portion of the state bordering Lake Michigan with great cities like Allendale, Grand Haven, Holland, and Hudsonville to name a few.

This doesn’t mean crime is non-existent, but a home invasion that leaves a man and his dog stabbed is exactly the kind of violent incident that shocks a community.
Homeowner And Dog Stabbed After Suspect Breaks In
According to WOOD TV, around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, in Olive Township, a home invasion took place while a 68-year-old man and his dog were home alone. A suspect broke into the home and unfortunately stabbed the man and his dog.
The homeowner suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and was able to be treated on the scene. Unfortunately, the man's dog died later at the vet from its injuries.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department was able to use a drone team and K-9 units to track and arrest a 23-year-old male suspect who was arrested and taken to the Ottawa County Jail.

This was a random crime, as the victim and suspect did not know each other. The Sheriff's Department is continuing with an investigation.
