A case from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was featured last week on Investigation Discovery’s TV show Body Cam. The show uses real body camera footage to show fast-moving, high-risk situations and the split-second decisions police officers face in the line of duty.

Back in 2022, a violent robbery happened at Tienda Guatemalteca on South Burdick Street in Kalamazoo. During the incident, the suspect fired multiple rounds inside the store at employees and a responding officer while trying to escape. It was chaotic and intense, and it could have ended much worse.

Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, and the suspect was caught. He’s now facing 17 to 40 years in prison plus extra time for felony firearm charges.

The episode, titled “Till the Wheels Fall Off,” is Season 10, Episode 10 of Body Cam and is streaming now on HBO Max.
