Holland is Named #1 ‘Small City to Start a Business’ in America

Thinking about tapping into your entrepreneurial side and starting a business? Holland may be the right place to do so.

For the third year in a row, the West MI city topped the list for WalletHub's 'Best & Worst Small Cities to Start a Business.' These 1,261 small U.S. cities have a population between 25K to 100K residents and they were compared on a variety of "business-friendliness" metrics including:

• Avg. length of work week
• Avg. commute time
• Avg. revenue per business
• Labor Costs
• Financing accessibility
• Cost of living
• Job Growth

Holland is the best city in America with 'Access to Resources' -- it fared the lowest in 'Business Environment' at #351, but out of over 1200 cities that's not so bad.

Holland wasn't the only small city in Michigan to show up in the study. When it comes to getting the best deal on office furniture, you don't have to go very far because Kentwood took that top spot. On the opposite, not-so-good side of the list, East Lansing is the worst when it comes to the number of hours working in a week. Mt. Pleasant wasn't that far behind, but it's not that surprising considering they're both college towns.

The worst small city in America to start a business is Suisun City, CA.
