Before diving into specific jobs, it's worth noting that what makes a job "bad" is often subjective. A position that one person dreads may be a perfect fit for someone else. That said, when Grand Rapids residents talk about undesirable jobs, the conversation typically centers on low-paying retail jobs, high-turnover manufacturing positions, and employers that have earned reputations for burnout, stressful conditions, or poor management.

Some of the jobs most commonly viewed as difficult or undesirable in the Grand Rapids area include positions at understaffed healthcare and senior living facilities, entry-level manufacturing jobs with high turnover, low-paying retail and food service roles, and corporate or tech positions where employees face frequent layoffs or ongoing job uncertainty.
