Grand Valley State University engineering students have built and delivered an electric swing to a local family to help their daughter with special needs.

The students built the swing for Alexis Truax after her mother, Sarah Truax, contacted the School of Engineering to ask if they could help her daughter after she learned about a wheelchair that GVSU had built for a special needs child.

The new project for Alexis was organized by GVSU assistant professor of engineering Mahdi Norouzi and students in a machine-design class.

Norouzi says the students developed prototypes with grant funding, and built the swing with support from the GVSU engineering department.
