GVSU Men’s Lacrosse Team Saves Day After Opponent’s Bus Broke Down
On March 29th, the Grand Valley State University Men's lacrosse team recently had a match against the North Dakota State University Bison. It was a stellar showing for the Lakers, who beat the Bison 17-3, with GVSU's Bryce Gordon scoring 7 goals. On paper, it was a normal match.

But behind the scenes, the match almost didn't happen at all. NDSU's bus broke down on its way to Allendale, and rather than the teams reschedule or forfeit, the Lakers decided on an unexpected third option.
In a pure display of sportsmanship and something that would only happen in D2 sports, the Lakers saved the day by having each student-athlete drive their personal vehicles to pick up the stranded players so the match could go on.
Opponents To Friends: GVSU Pick Up NDSU After Bus Malfunction
Now, NDSU's campus is located in Fargo, North Dakota, a 13-hour drive from Allendale, Michigan. The bus carrying the team had already completed the long trek. The bus carrying all their gear, however, did not.
So Coach Tim Murray devised an unconventional plan. He gathered his players together, texted them all the address of where the team was staying, and each GVSU player drove their individual vehicle to pick up the Bison.

But it didn't stop there: the NDSU players gave the Lakers the address of the broken-down bus to pick up their gear, and only then did everyone return to campus for the match.
While opponents on the field barely interact beyond the 4 quarters of gameplay, the Lakers went above and beyond, selflessly inviting their opponents into their personal vehicles...before showing why bison nearly went extinct.
The win improved the Lakers' record to 4-2. Their next game is against the Central Michigan Chippewas on April 3rd.
