Grand Valley State Baseball Goes Viral For The Wrong Reasons
The beginning of 2025 could not have started better for the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Lakers. The women's basketball team won the program's second-ever D2 National Championship, going 38-2 in a storybook season. On top of this, five Lakers earned GLIAC Commissioner's Awards (two on the women's basketball team and three indoor track and field competitors).
While the winter season is one many will remember for years, the start of one spring sport is getting attention for reasons the team probably would prefer were matching something similar to these accolades. Instead, the GVSU Men's Baseball Team is getting laughed at for a loss that happened on the last play of the game in the most absurd way.

The Wildest Ending In D2 History
Davenport University (DU) Panthers and GVSU were in the bottom of the ninth on March 29th, with GVSU up 7-5 after scoring two runs in the top of the 8th. The Lakers just needed to close out the 9th inning and avoid giving up three runs. The count reaches 3-2 with 2 outs and the bases loaded. One final pitch to decide the game. Sadly, things did not go their way.
A wild pitch bounced off the catcher's foot, causing the ball to bounce erratically. With no one on GVSU's team able to see where the ball went, the Panthers managed to score three runs on a broken play that cost GVSU the game. To make matters worse, a popular TikToker's coverage of the game has put the team's error on blast.
Jomboy Media's Coverage
Jomboy Media, an account with 600 thousand followers on TikTok and nearly 1 million on Instagram, is known for voicing over sports clips of weird, funny, or wild moments in the world of sports. The end of this game is classified as unbelievable and is something that caught the attention of Jomboy.
His breakdown of the Lakers' blunder has been viewed over 1 million times across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. For a D2 baseball team playing on a Saturday morning, this coverage is not the type of positivity the basketball team got. Thankfully, the season is early, and the Lakers have plenty of games to bounce back.
