The rivalry between the Ferris State University (FSU) Bulldogs in Big Rapids and the Grand Valley State University Lakers (GVSU) in Allendale is as old as time. The schools' first meeting took place in 1972, and it has been one of college football's most dynamic matchups. In recent years, the two teams have been two of the most dominant programs in Division 2.

The schools have met in the playoffs three of the last four years, but this year the Bulldogs got the upper hand on not just Lakers, but all of Division 2 football after they were crowned National Champions. To celebrate the championship, the college got billboards around the state and got pretty cheeky with one specific billboard placement.

Ferris State Gets The Last Laugh

Since the Anchor-Bone Classic rivalry officially started in 2003, it has been told in two halves of dominance. GVSU won the first 9 games in the series (2003-2011). However, from 2012 to 2021, FSU won 10 of 12 games. Since then, GVSU has gone 3 of 5, including matchups in the playoffs in the regular season.

This was the Bulldog's year, however. Not only did they beat GVSU at home 34-7, but they went on to win the championship. As the ultimate way to brag about their success, the team got a billboard right outside GVSU's main entrance.

To add salt to the wound, this billboard traditionally has an advertisement for GVSU, so not only did they win the Football championship, but they also snagged the billboard from them. The billboard is five minutes from campus along Lake Michigan Dr.

Ouch.

Considering that both GVSU and FSU were ranked in the top 3 this season, and with the smack talk now on another level, the stakes for next season have never been higher.
