Grand Rapids’ Great Lakes Shipping Co. Restaurant to Close After More Than Forty Years
After more than forty years in business, Great Lakes Shipping Co. on the corner of Burton and Breton is closing at the end of the month.
The nautical-themed steak and seafood restaurant's last day open will be May 28.
President Bill Irwin told WZZM-13 that the restaurant's lease ran out in December and they were given through May to relocate.
Irwin says the restaurant hopes to move to a new location, but can't afford a bank loan right now.
The restaurant is close to the Breton Village Shopping Center, which is home to the new Fresh Thyme Market, H&M, D&W, and other retailers. CWD Real Estate Investment, who owns the property, plans to tear the building down later this year.
