Every Pizza Hut was recognizable by its red roof and hut shapeso you knew the chain before you could smell it. Its roof became so synonymous with the brand that it was incorporated into the logo in 1971.

Sadly, modern Pizza Hut buildings no longer feature this design, which was retired in the early 2000s in favor of smaller, sleeker designs.

But the OG design has stuck with people, and because of its unique shape, former Pizza Hut buildings that have been given a "second life" are easily identifiable as PH buildings in disguise. It's why subreddits like r/FormerPizzaHuts and the website usetobeapizzahut.com are dedicated to identifying these former stores.

But what is that people look for to identify these stores? Most of the stores have retired the red roof, but its shape remains for a good portion of them.

Many have removed or neutered the "hut" portion of the roof, so the other identifier is the trapezoid-shaped windows that surround the building.
