Why Michiganders Sleep Better on Rainy Nights
A light rain at night might be Michigan’s best sleep aid. Research shows that soothing sounds and air chemistry improve sleep quality.
Warm Weather, Rainy Nights, Windows Open
If you are like me, you enjoy a great night's sleep. There is nothing like a refreshing night where you sleep just the right amount and wake up the next day feeling ready to take on the day.
I had a window cracked, and felt I had gotten the best night of sleep in a long time. I didn't check the weather since I wasn't going fishing or hunting the next day and had no idea it would rain.
When I got up the next morning to take the dog out before leaving for work, I felt so refreshed. I noticed the sidewalk and the grass were wet and thought, I bet that rain helped me get a great night's rest. I have often wondered if there was any science to back that up.

Is There Something About a Rainy Night That Helps People Sleep Better?
I am no scientist, but over the years, I have noticed that when it rains at night and fresh rain air gets into the house, I have the best night's sleep ever. There must be something about this rainy air, but I wasn't sure if there were any facts behind this.
According to Manse Medical, rainy air is at a lower pressure and is filled with water vapour. The lower oxygen in the air makes our brains a little more tired. Rain brings negative ions, helping improve the nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems. This makes you feel more comfortable and relaxed, hence a better night of sleep.

The other part of this good sleep equation is the sound of rain. Rain has a rhythmic, quiet sound that causes the brain to relax unconsciously and increases your chance of having a better night's rest.
