These venues are known as Designated Consumption Establishments, a place to relax, socialize and consume cannabis, much like a bar for cannabis.

As of mid-2026, Michigan has just four active state licenses for Designated Consumption Establishments. Meanwhile, dozens of additional DCE proposals have been submitted to the state and local governments and are awaiting approval.

According to Fox 17, Edgar Ramon, co-owner of Fields Cannary in Muskegon, is planning to open a one-of-a-kind cannabis entertainment destination. While the restaurant will be the centerpiece of the business, the facility will also feature a dispensary, indoor and outdoor cannabis consumption lounges, and a liquor license.

Ramon and his partners have been converting the former Sons of Norway Hall into a place where those 21 and older will be able to consume various adult products at one location. They have turned the old hall into an upscale cannabis destination that offers food, entertainment, and drinks.

Fields Cannary will open its doors in late September, bringing a type of business to West Michigan that could eventually become as common as the breweries and distilleries already established throughout the region.
