When you're sitting on a flight for nearly 10 hours, bored out of your mind, the little things make a big impact. One of those things is when the flight attendants show up with a warm airplane dinner that is good enough to satisfy you but you might question eating anywhere else.

This isn't a bash about anything in particular; I love that airplane meal. I look forward to it every time. However, one of Detroit's top airliners has recently been barred from serving hot food on their planes for a rather disgusting reason.

Delta Goes Cold

In a rather unexpected turn of events, this past Saturday Delta Airlines announced they would be unable to serve food on any of its 200 flights that date. Why? Take it from this passenger who had his flight that day.

Fun one today. Detroit to Dallas the pilot announced that the FDA did a surprise inspection of food operations at the airport and they failed. So there was no catering for any flights out of Detroit today. I was in first and had a snack box. No biggie. Kinda scary though.

You read that correctly. For once, a flight had no mechanical issues but the catering service for Delta Airlines failed a surprise food inspection. Delta will be using a different company going forward. No illnesses were reported in connection to this inspection failure.

What That Means For You

If you have a Delta flight going out of Detroit this week, the airliner is working to source meals from another company. Inbound flights are not believed to be affected since they are usually loaded with food at the hub airport. If the company has not rectified this issue by the time you board, well, expect a lot of snacks instead.
