These Michigan Cat Cafés Serve Up Caffeine and Cuddles
In the early 2000s, I heard about cat cafés for the first time. As a feline-lover and a coffee fan, I was immediately intrigued. The idea started in Taiwan and exploded in popularity in Japan, offering folks a cozy place to unwind with a warm drink and some whiskered company.
Eventually, the trend made its way to the U.S.—and thankfully, right here to Michigan!

One thing I really love is that this gets animals and people socializing together. Plus, the cafes work with rescues to find the cats new homes. As a cat mom of two rescued brothers, I think it's such a cool idea. Here are my boys, Emmett and Ezra.
So have you ever visited a cat café in the Mitten State? The only one I’ve been to is Happy Cat Café in downtown Grand Rapids. It’s an adorable spot that partners with local rescue Fig and Friends. Not only can you sip lattes and pet cats, but you might also meet your new best friend. The cats are adoptable, so it’s a win for animal lovers and rescues alike. There are fun events too, like painting with cats and yoga with cats!

While Happy Cat Café is awesome, I’ve been thinking it’s time to explore more of what Michigan has to offer. From Ferndale to Kalamazoo, there are cat cafés scattered across the state, each with its own vibe and cuddly companions.
